Stand time extension of a concrete mixer with kalocer ceramic tiles

What do you get when you mix cement with gravel, sand and water? Yes, of course … wear and tear!
Our customers in the concrete industry have large mixing plants in which paddles rotate day in and day out to mix the aforementioned ingredients in various proportions to produce high-quality concrete.

Wivé Techniek is allowed to think along with these customers about ways to extend the service life of mixing drums and blades. Because if you make them from ordinary steel, or even from the hard steel variant Hardox, you have to stop production every so often because the bottom of the mixer is worn through.
We have now reached the point where we are preserving the bottom of the vessel with ceramics. This is extremely effective, because with ceramics we can extend the service life to several years. This allows the mixers to easily meet the planned annual production stop, which is standard during the Christmas vacations or the construction period.

An accurate job

Especially at the connection to the round dump valve, this is real precision work. The result is a beautiful ceramic “bathtub,” which will again withstand the abrasive action of rotating concrete for years to come. By the way, nice detail: the special mixing vanes also come from Wivé. These are cast from polyurethane, also very wear-resistant, but less so than the bottom of the vessel. Because if something has to wear out anyway in the mutual contact … then prefer those paddles, which you can easily replace, between two loads of concrete.

1.Time for a new beginning

2. A mechanic prepares

3.Quite a puzzle

The raw soil is prepared for gluing in a new layer of ceramic.

This picture gives a good impression of the proportions. The mixer is large enough for two men to work in it at once.

4. The floor of the barrel takes shape

5. Ceramic protects steel

6. Blades may wear out faster

The fitters take great care to lay the wear-resistant tile floor very flat. Irregularities would damage the mixing vanes.

Here you can clearly see how the Kalocer tiles are slightly higher than the metal parts. The ceramic absorbs the abbrasive blows for the steel.

7. The floor is ready for a new year

The renovation of the mixer is over. The new kalocer lining protects the plant from wear and tear again for several years. Until the next scheduled production stop.
