Wear-resistant ceramics from Zirconium and Aluminum Oxide
Wear-resistant ceramic
This wear-resistant ceramic, also known as Kalcor, consists of aluminum oxide and zirconium oxide and is ideally suited for use in severe abrasive wear in combination with high temperatures. Wear-resistant ceramics are cast as plates, ring segments and pipe sections.
Key features
Kalcor segments are used as pipe cladding, with a layer of mortar between the steel of the pipe and the wear-resistant material. Plate segments can be attached mechanically as well as glued. When applied at high temperature (changes), we pay close attention to differences in expansion coefficients.
Key features:
- Suitable for high abrasive wear and high temperatures
- Depending on dimensions applicable up to 1000 °C
- High hardness, can only be cut with a diamond saw blade
Applications of Kalcor
Ceramic with added zirconium is an excellent alternative to Ceramic with only alumina (Kalocer). because zirconium offers high wear resistance. Specifically suitable for:
- Bends of pneumatic conveying lines
- High temperature applications
- Coating pipes with mortar
- Mechanically fastened or glued plate pieces
Practice
A pulverized coal distribution unit was fitted with wear-resistant ceramic plates, significantly reducing wear and tear. Zirconium ceramics have also proven durable performance in extreme conditions in flue gas cleaning systems.
Technical details
Kalcor can withstand temperatures up to 1000°C depending on the application and dimensions. It is extremely wear-resistant and suitable for industrial applications where durability is essential.
